How do I assemble and hang a porch swing?
Follow these tips for assembling and safely hanging your POLYWOOD porch swing:
- Ceiling height: Attach to ceilings or structures up to 9 feet tall.
- Load-bearing support: Affix the swing to a load-bearing beam or ceiling joist that can support the swing's weight and that of any users.
- Joist support: Joists should have adequate support on both ends and should be 2' x 6' or 2' x 8' in thickness.
- Mounting height: The swing should hang 17–19 inches above the floor.
- Mounting hardware distance: The hardware should be placed 4–6 inches wider than the swing's length (measured from armrest to armrest).
- Clearance: Ensure 3–4 feet of space in front and back, and 12–14 inches of clearance on either side for safe movement.

FAQs:
Q: Where can I find assembly instructions for my swing model?
A: Assembly instructions are included with your swing and show how to put the swing together and attach the chains and hardware. You can also download instructions from our Assembly Instructions page.
Q: Does the swing kit include mounting hardware?
A: Mounting hardware is sold separately because all structural supports are different. We recommend consulting a carpenter or hardware professional to determine the correct items needed to install your swing.
Q: Do you sell free-standing swing frames?
A: At this time, POLYWOOD does not sell free-standing swing frames. However, you can use a swing stand from another manufacturer, provided it meets the size and weight specifications for your swing.
Q: Can I use rope to hang my porch swing instead of a chain?
A: Aside from our daybed swings, our porch swings have only been tested with chains, so we do not recommend using rope.
