How do I assemble and hang a porch swing?
Use these tips to assemble and hang your POLYWOOD porch swing safely and easily:
- Ceiling height: Our porch swings can hang from ceilings or structures that are up to nine feet tall.
- Load-bearing support: Swings must be attached to load-bearing beams or ceiling joists that can support their weight and that of any users.
- Joist support: Joists should have adequate support on both ends and should be 2' x 6' or 2' x 8' in thickness.
- Mounting height: Swings should hang 17–19 inches above the floor.
- Mounting hardware distance: Hardware should be placed 4–6 inches wider than the swing's length (measured from armrest to armrest).
- Clearance: For safe movement, ensure 3–4 feet of space in front and back and 12–14 inches of clearance on either side.

FAQs:
Q: Where can I find assembly instructions for my swing model?
A: Every swing order comes with printed assembly instructions and digital copies are available for download on our Assembly Instructions page.
Q: Does the swing kit include mounting hardware?
A: Mounting hardware is sold separately because all structural supports are different. We recommend checking with a carpenter or hardware professional to find the correct hardware for your swing.
Q: Do you sell free-standing swing frames?
A: At this time, POLYWOOD does not sell free-standing swing frames. However, you can use a stand from another manufacturer—just make sure it meets your swing’s size and weight specifications.
Q: Can I use rope to hang my porch swing instead of a chain?
A: Aside from our daybed swings, our porch swings have only been tested with chains, so we do not recommend using rope.
